3 Ways To Prevent Golf Injuries

3 Ways To Prevent Golf Injuries

Let’s face it, golf is fun. Not only can you enjoy a great competitive game, you are able to get out of your home and spend quality time with others who enjoy the same activities as you. Although golf is fun, you may experience serious injuries if you are not paying attention to the proper way to golf or if you are making mistakes in your posture and form. As an aging senior, you need to pay close attention to your body and learn to recognize when you are overexerting yourself.

To prevent golf injuries while playing at your local country club, take a look at these following three tips below.

Stretch Before You Begin to Golf

If you are preparing to go out and golf, take some time to stretch before you tee off in the game. It is important that you spend a few minutes stretching your arms, legs, and back. If you do not stretch, you run the risk of pulling a muscle if you turn too quickly or if you overextend your arm as you are hitting the golf ball with your club.

Your stretching routine does not have to be elaborate or complex and a few simple stretches will suffice. One fun way to incorporate stretching into your game is to do it with your fellow friends. You and your friends can take turns counting.

    Use the Right Equipment

When you purchased your golf clubs, did you have them measured in conjunction with your size? Unfortunately, if you did not, you may be setting yourself up for a serious injury. Your golf clubs must be the right size and length to provide you with a comfortable game and to prevent any injuries from occurring.

For instance, if your club is too short, you may need to bend over more than you should and this can cause back strain and even a pulled muscle or two in the area. In addition to your equipment, make sure that you are wearing appropriate clothing that fits and is not too restrictive or too loose.

    Learn How to Swing Correctly

If you are not sure how to properly swing your golf club, you will find that you suffer from lower back injuries, a bad golfing game, and also golfer’s elbow. These injuries can cause an immense amount of pain and they require time to heal.

If you do not know how to swing correctly, consider taking classes to learn more about how you should swing and what not to do when you are out on the green. Your posture plays an important role as well and when you stand slouched or you do not bend correctly, injury will occur.

Don’t place yourself in harm’s ways and take time to learn more about your golfing game and how to properly hold your clubs. When you eliminate bad posture and bad habits, you will be able to enjoy golfing with your friends without the worry of coming home and needing to ice your back and elbow.
